John Massey (1925–1987): English Footballer, Grimsby Town and Leicester City Centre-Half

John Massey (1925–1987) was an English footballer who played as a centre-half for Grimsby Town and Leicester City. Massey was born in Stourbridge and began his footballing career at the age of 15, signing for Grimsby Town as an amateur. After establishing himself as a first team regular, he moved to Leicester City in December 1949 for £9,000.

At Leicester, Massey was part of the team who won promotion from the Second Division in 1954 and the Football League title in 1958/59. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year on three separate occasions during his seven years at the club. Massey was also voted the Players' Player of the Year in 1959 by his teammates. He left Leicester in 1960 to join Southern League side Brackley Town, where he ended his playing career.

Massey was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Leicester City's King Power Stadium in 2017, as part of the Club's 125th anniversary celebrations. He is held in high esteem by Leicester City fans, who named the South Stand at the King Power Stadium after him in 2018.
