Fazl Endorses PTI’s Right to Rally for Constitutional Freedoms

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), openly backed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) democratic and constitutional rights to organize protests and rallies. This comes amidst a backdrop of political tensions following the February elections, which both JUI-F and PTI alleged were rigged.

While the JUI-F and PTI had previously aligned in contesting the election results, the former has not joined a broader six-party opposition alliance against the current government. Notably, JUI-F played a significant role in the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government formed after removing the PTI through a no-confidence vote.

Recently, PTI supporters staged rallies in Karachi protesting the detention of party founder Imran Khan, urging judicial intervention to safeguard their constitutional right to protest.

During a National Assembly session, PTI leader Asad Qaiser raised concerns about the party's rights, emphasizing the importance of civilian supremacy and judicial independence. Maulana Fazlur Rehman echoed Qaiser's sentiments, supporting the PTI's right to protest.

However, Fazlur Rehman expanded the discourse, highlighting broader concerns about the state of democracy in the country. He questioned the extent of parliamentary representation, criticizing political interference from non-elected bodies.

Addressing PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, along with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Fazlur Rehman called for relinquishing power and allowing the PTI to govern if they indeed hold the majority. He accused the ruling parties of prioritizing personal agendas over national interests.

Furthermore, Fazlur Rehman condemned political meddling by non-political entities, lamenting the blame unfairly placed on politicians for systemic issues.
