Seminar on Women's Rights Awareness at Okara University

اوکاڑہ(جاوید راہی)اوکاڑہ یونیورسٹی میں خواتین کے حقوق کی آگہی کے حوالے سے ایک سیمینار کا انعقاد کیا گیا جس کی صدارت وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد زکریا ذاکر نے کی جب کے مہمان اسپیکرز میں ڈسٹرکٹ پولیس آفیسر اوکاڑہ عمر سعید، ایڈوکیٹ سپریم کورٹ ربیا باجوہ اور نامور صحافی سلمان عابد شامل تھے۔  سیمینار کا اہتمام شعبہ اردو کی سربراہ ڈاکٹر سمیرا اعجاز نے کیا۔

اپنے افتتاحی خطاب میں پروفیسر زکریا نے بتایا کہ پاکستانی معاشرے سے خواتین کے حقوق کی پامالی صرف سائنسی تحقیق اور علم کے فروغ کے ذریعے ہی ختم کی جاسکتی ہے۔ ان کا مزید کہنا تھا کہ خواتین معاشرے کی بنیادی اکائی ہیں اور ان کو معاشرتی دھارے میں شامل کیے بغیر ملکی ترقی کا خواب شرمندہ تعبیر نہیں ہوسکتا۔

ڈی پی او نے اس بات پہ زور دیا کہ ملک میں خواتین کے حقوق کے تحفظ کے حوالے سے موجود قوانین کو لاگو کرنے کے لیے پہلے معاشرے میں ان قوانین کی آگہی اور قبولیت پیدا کرنا ہو گی۔ انہوں نے ڈسٹرکٹ پولیس ڈیپارٹمنٹ کا ایک پلان بھی پیش کیا جس میں وہ مقامی سطع پر مذہبی رہنماوں، اساتذہ اور معاشرے کے دیگر با اثر لوگوں کو اپنے ساتھ ملا کر خواتین کے حقوق کی آگہی کے حوالے سے کام کرنے جا رہے ہیں۔

ربیا باجوہ نے پاکستان بننے سے لے کر اب تک خواتین کے حقوق کے حوالے سے کی جانے والی قانون سازی پہ ایک تجزیہ پیش کیا اور ان قوانین کے نفاذ پہ زور دیا۔ اس حوالے سے انہوں نے میڈیا سے اپیل کی کہ وہ اپنا مضبوط کردار ادا کرے۔ 

سلمان عابد نے معاشرے سے صنفی امتیاز اور خواتین کے حقوق کی پامالی ختم کرنے کے حوالے سے تعلیمی اداروں کے کردار کی اہمیت واضع کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جس طرح ملک سے دہشت گردی ختم کر نے کے لیے ایک نیشنل ایکشن پلان بنایا گیا تھا اسی طرح خواتین کے حقوق کے تحفظ کے لیے بھی ایک پلان کی ضرورت ہے۔

سیمینار کے اختتام پہ وائس چانسلر نے شرکاء کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور اس عزم کا اعادہ کیا کہ اس طرح کے موضوعات پہ مزید سیمینارز بھی منعقد کیے جائیں گے۔

Women Rights Awareness Seminar held at UO

A Seminar on “Women Rights Awareness: Options and Challenges” was held at the University of Okara. The Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar presided over the session while three guest speaks including District Police Office Okara Omer Saeed, Advocate Supreme Court Rabbiya Bajwa and renowned journalist Salman Abid expressed their views on various issues and challenges involved in women rights awareness legislation. 

In his welcome note, Dr Zakar told that the violence against women and women rights violations in the Pakistani society could only be controlled through the development of evidence based knowledge. 

He said, “Women are the fundamental building blocks of society and we cannot prosper without including them into the mainstream”. 

The DPO argued that in order to ensure the implementation of women protection laws, there was a need of creating social acceptance of those laws at the first place. He also presented a plan of the district police department to engage the opinion leaders including religious preachers, teachers and other influential from the civil society to engage and aware the public on women rights. 

Rabbiya presented an overview of the evolution of the women rights legislations in Pakistan and stressed the need of creating mass awareness of the laws. She urged the media to play an active role in this regard.

Salman focused on the role of educational institutions in addressing social issues and inculcating ideological change regarding gender equality. He told that a national action plan for women development was a dire need of the country.  

At the end of the seminar, the VC thanked the guest speakers and the audience for participating in the debate and vowed to organize more interactive sessions on this issue.
