اوکاڑہ: اوکاڑہ یونیورسٹی میں جنگلی حیات کے عالمی دن پہ سیمینار کا انعقاد

Okara: Seminar on World Wildlife Day held at Okara University

اوکاڑہ(جاوید راہی)اوکاڑہ یونیورسٹی کے شعبہ زووالوجی نے جنگلی حیات کے تحفظ کے عالمی دن کے موقع پر ایک سیمینار کا انعقاد کیا جس میں مقررین نے ماحولیاتی نظام میں جانوروں کے کردار پہ روشنی ڈالی اور جنگلی حیات کے تحفظ کے حوالے سے مختلف اقدامات پہ بحث کی۔

سیمینار کے شرکاء سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے شعبہ زووالوجی کے چیئرمین ڈاکٹر محمد واجد نے کہا کہ جانوروں کا انسانی زندگی میں بہت اہم کردار ہےکیونکہ بیشتر ادویات جانوروں یا پودوں سے بنائی جاتی ہیں۔

انہوں نے طلباء کو اس بات کی ترغیب دی کہ وہ جنگلی حیات کے تحفظ کےلیے معاشرے میں شعور بیدار کریں اور لوگوں کو اس بات کا احساس دلائیں کہ وہ جانوروں کے غیر ضروری شکار سے پرہیز کریں، فصلوں میں کھادوں اور کیڑے مار ادویات کے استعمال کو کم کریں اور پانی کے ذخائر کا تحفظ کریں۔

انہوں نے ملک میں وسیع پیمانے پہ شجر کاری اور جنگلات کے تحفظ کی اہمیت پہ بھی زور دیا تاکہ خطرے سے دوچار جانوروں، پودوں اور کیڑوں کو بچایا جا سکے۔ 

شعبہ زووالوجی کے دیگر اساتذہ بشمول ڈاکٹر رانا منظور احمد، ڈاکٹر سجاد سرور اور ڈاکٹر سلیم خان نے بھی سیمینار سے خطاب کیا۔

یونیورسٹی کے ترجمان کے مطابق یونیورسٹی انتظامیہ نے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد زکریا ذاکر کے فکر کی روشنی میں ایک سنٹربھی قائم کیا ہے جس کا مقصد اس خطے میں خطرے سے دوچار جنگلی و آبی حیات کے تحفظ کےلیے کام کرنا ہے۔

World Wildlife Day Seminar held at UO

The University of Okara’s Department of Zoology organized a seminar at the eve of the World Wildlife Day. The speakers at the seminar discussed the role of animals in ecosystem and proposed differed ways to conserve the wildlife. 

Addressing to the participants, the Chairman Department of Zoology, Dr Muhammad Wajid, said that animals had a key role in human life as most of the lifesaving drugs were either extracted from animals or plants.         

He urged the students to work on raising awareness for the protection of the wildlife by discouraging the unnecessary hunting and killing of animals, avoidance of the overuse of pesticides and fertilizers and conservation of water resources. 

He also stressed the need of extensive plantation and upkeep of forests so that the endangered animals, birds and insects could be preserved. 

The other faculty members of the Department of Zoology including Dr Rana Manzoor Ahmed, Dr Sajjad Sarwar and Dr Saleem Khan also addressed the seminar. 

According to the university spokesperson, the UO administration, following the vision of the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, has established a Center for Sustainability that is aimed at taking initiatives to preserve the endangered species of animals and plants in the region.
